The ELCA Youth Gathering is cause for excitement. 39,000 Lutheran Christians in New Orleans makes a big statement because they not only take over Downtown and the French Quarter for several days but they do a lot of service as well. The people of New Orleans have come to know us as “our Lutherans” and they are thrilled that we will be coming back!
For a teen, being a part of the Youth Gathering is sometimes a hard thing to express in faith terms. What did this mean in my life – besides the hot weather, crowds, and new food? It is a life changing experience, but how does one put it in to words? And that is one of the reason the ELCA has added a new component to the Youth Gathering: Practice Discipleship. And the best part is that you don’t even have to attend the Youth Gathering to take advantage of this part. The trainings have already begun at the Synod level and they are open to all – regardless of whether or not you plan to attend the Gathering in July 2012. We want adults who work with youth to have good resources in faith formation at their fingertips. We want young people to become so aware of and grateful for God's grace that they can't be quiet about it.
I’d love to help you get connected to those webinars, which can be found on the ELCA website. Watch them with your entire youth ministry team. They will be recorded so you can watch them at a more convenient time for your group.
If you want to talk more, please call me or email me. I’d love to have more conversation!
