2008 Lutheran Staff Association Conference

"Surrounded by God:
Empowered to Serve"

May 12-15 ~ Holden Village

The 2008 Lutheran Staff Association Conference was held last week at Holden Village.  We were honored to have Bishop David Brauer-Rieke as our guest speaker.  Our workshops led by Rev. Shelley Wickstrom, Mary Chamberlain, Karen Dicken, Lisa Gray, Estelle Morley were opportunities to share, learn and reaffirm.  Our bonds were strengthened through worship, communion and passing the peace.  During times of singing, peer ministry groups and participating in the talent show we were able to laugh, reflect, and rejoice together in being a part of The Church - the Body of Christ.  We will stay connected through our Prayer Partners.  Holden is a good place to go and be; explore and renew.  Thank you for your support of the lay staff who serve Christ through the Lutheran Church offices in varied ministries as we continue to remember it is God's Work - Our Hands.

We look forward to the time when we again gather for mutual support, learning, and reflection.  We are excited to be returning in 2009 to our second most favorite spot:  Canon Beach, OR.

~  Cathie Carlisle

What is L.S.A.?

Lutheran Staff Associate is a pan-Lutheran group of non-clergy employees serving Lutheran congregations, agencies and in specialized settings.

Our Associate was formed in 1960 under the name of Church Staff Worker's Associate of the Northwest.  We became Association of Professional Lutheran Lay Ministers (APLLM) in 1988 to conform to the national organization's name.  In 1998, we began the process to change our name to the Lutheran Staff Association to have a less cumbersome title.  At the 2000 conference the official name change took place.

Our membership is drawn from Lutheran congregations and agencies in Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington.  We are funded by membership dues, judicatory support, and donations.

What does L.S.A. do?
Lutheran Staff Association promotes individual development for non-clergy staff.  We provide opportunities for education, inspiration, training, and networking for mutual support to our members.

In the early part of each year we hold a 4-day conference to provide you with opportunities to learn and laugh, sing and pray, grow in faith and connect with others working in similar ministries.

Many congregations provide continuing education funds for their non-clergy staff so they can attend the L.S.A. conference annually.  Your own spiritual growth as well as the ministry of your church or agency will be enhanced by your participation in this event.
