Join the Faith and Environment Network and faithful creation stewards around the Spokane area for the observance of the world’s largest single campaign for the planet
Earth Hour 2012 March 31 at 8 pm
Spokane Unitarian Universalist Church 4340 West Fort George Wright Drive, Spokane, WA
There will be music, prayers, and speakers, all by candlelight, helping us focus our minds and energies on the creation, its gifts and needs in our time, and our responsibilities as its stewards.
Earth Hour was observed last year in 135 countries, 5251 cities and towns, and 1.8 billion people. Spokane’s Mayor made a proclamation encouraging Spokane’s people, businesses, and organizations to observe the event by turning out lights for an hour and taking time to appreciate and recommit to the care of creation.
If you cannot be present with us at the community event, you are encouraged to turn off the lights in your home and/or business from 8:30 to 9:30 pm on Saturday, March 31. Below is a link to an ELCA 2012 National Advocacy Priorities Survey. Through this survey, we seek to communicate with Lutherans across the country to gage their thoughts on advocacy, as well as their current participation. The survey is extremely important in guiding our Washington Office in the upcoming year.
Dear Friends,
Your opinion matters! Advocacy is a faith act you share with Moses, Esther, the Prophets, Luther and many Christians around the world. Advocacy is living our Lutheran belief that good government is a gift. Advocacy is pushing aside toxic politics to make space for others unheard. Advocacy is talking about your volunteering, projects and ministries to your public officials. Advocacy is your voice. Jesus calls the Holy Spirit “Advocate”. I know, I know. You and I are Americans living in a country that seems to have forgotten how to make meaningful decisions. Tired of politics-as-is in both major parties? We hear you! Want to share what is important to you as a person of faith for 2012? We hear you! Take ten minutes and tell us about advocacy priorities… Let’s stand together with hope and purpose next year. Blessings, Drew Genszler Director of Advocacy ELCA
Thank you for your partnership!
