2008 Bishop's Convocation
October 27-30
Red Lion Columbia Center Hotel ~ Kennewick, WA

Theme:
"Pastor as Missionary"

Featuring Speakers:
Rev. Dr. Godron Lathrop
Rev. Dr. Tom Christensen
Rev. Stan Olson
Rev. Susan Briehl
Ms. Erika Jacobs

Extra Day:  Bible Book of Faith
Wednesday through Thursday Noon

The theme this year, Pastor as Missionary, has been carefully chosen with rostered servants in mind.  Obviously there is a connection with our on-going revitalization around mission.  This Convocation should be seen as continuing the work started with Jan Shipps and Charlie Mays in 2006, asking about our neighbors and our western context for mission.  We continued this work with Dave Daubert and Ruben Duran last year, equipping leaders for the changes in our culture.  Because so few of us were trained as “missionary” pastors we press on this year, asking how we might reconceive or pre-prioritize our work as ministers in public, not simply home pastors.  But the other reason for this theme is to say a simple “thank you” for the winsome way you have embodied the pastoral task.  This new day is stretching us in new directions that cannot be absorbed without thanks for the current work.  Thank you friends, pastors, rostered leaders of our church!

Bible Book of Faith Introduction

As an extra option rostered leaders are invited to stay for an additional night for introduction to the ELCA initiative, Bible Book of Faith.  This initiative is for all our congregations and is intended to celebrate God’s Word as the first language of faith.  Dr. Stan Olson, Pr. Susan Briehl, Ms. Erika Jacobs, Pr. Ladd Bjorneby, and Pr. Tom Christenson will address ways in which leaders can open up and celebrate scripture’s place among us.  The Bible Book of Faith sessions will be open to rostered leaders and congregation members.
